1. STUDIO
Studio mirettes is a ceramic research space exploring the emotional and tactile qualities of clay. Originally conceived for artisanal production and teaching, it has gradually evolved into a laboratory for material experimentation. Inspired by landscapes, topography and material memory, the practice develops objects that connect gesture, surface and use. Through experimentation and making, ceramic processes are transformed into functional and poetic design pieces.
1.1 PROFILE
Founded by ceramist Adele Leiras Torres, Studio mirettes is a ceramic research studio based in Switzerland. Since 2015, the practice has developed through a dialogue between craftsmanship, design history and material experimentation. This approach was shaped through a dual professional training leading to a Federal Certificate of Competence in ceramics, combining studio practice with ceramicist Peter Fink and academic studies at the School of Design Bern and Biel.
This background fostered an approach close to the idea of a total work of art, where form, function, material and use remain in constant dialogue.
Originally dedicated to artisanal production, the practice has progressively evolved towards a research-driven approach that explores the development of ceramic objects beyond the studio. Experiments conducted within the atelier serve as a testing ground for forms, surfaces and processes that can later inform small-scale or industrial production.
The work focuses on functional objects for the table and interior spaces, with particular attention to gastronomy, durability and contemporary design.
clients
The studio’s approach to ceramics, exploring the relationship the craftsmanship heritage and contemporary use, has led to collaborations with chefs, designers and cultural partners, including La Maison du Village, A côté, Christophe Ascencao, Adrien Laplana, Charte des Jardins, Leroy Opticien, Ocolat.ch and among others.
education
Alongside its research and design activities, Adele Leiras Torres is also engaged in the transmission of ceramic knowledge. The studio offers workshops in wheel throwing, slab building, modelling and decorative techniques for adults and children. Courses are organised privately, through educational programmes, and through visits to schools.
The studio also collaborates with teachers within the Bejune network and participates in initiatives such as Passeport Vacances, encouraging younger generations to discover applied arts and craft professions.
In addition, Studio mirettes contributes to professional training by supporting apprentices and welcoming interns, providing opportunities to develop practical skills and gain insight into contemporary ceramic practice.
professional affiliations
The ceramist is actively engaged in professional networks dedicated to ceramics and applied arts. Studio mirettes is affiliated with Swissceramics and Métiers d’Art Suisse.
